Whiplash Neck Injury
One of the most common injuries suffered in a car accident is whiplash neck injury. However, this injury is also caused by other events rather than car accidents like, fall from a height, sporting activities, etc. Whiplash neck injury causes extreme pain and frustration to the sufferer and it becomes very difficult for the sufferer to move his or her head.
The sudden jerk or thrust causes damage or rupture of the soft tissue of the neck, thereby leading to this injury. The abnormal range of motion, which is also called hypertension tends to put excessive force on the neck and causes whiplash injury. These injuries are no doubt painful. However, people still recover quickly and it is not something which will carry on for life, barring a few cases.
The symptoms of whiplash can occur anytime after the accident, maybe hours later of maybe days later. The sooner they appear, it implies more serious is your condition. You should immediately go to the doctor or medical practitioner, as soon as you face one or more symptoms of whiplash neck injury. An early and proper diagnosis will help you to deal with these injuries in a better manner and thus, will help you to recover quickly. Some of the symptoms which are prevalent in case of whiplash injuries are fatigue, headache, blurred vision, neck pain, shoulder pain, spasm, decreased neck movement etc.
Neck brace is widely used to treat whiplash neck injury. The primary purpose of neck brace is to restrict your neck movement. However, it is only for the initial stages. You need not wear it for long as it has been revealed that excessive immobilization of the neck will lead to more serious damage in your neck in the long term. Whenever you suffer a whiplash injury, you have to wear this brace for a particular amount of time. This is to restrict your movement for an initial period, after you have suffered the injury. After the stipulated time of wearing the brace is over then you should remove it and should do some neck stretching exercises. Your therapist or doctor will guide you through these exercises as well as the medications that you will require to recover quickly. These exercises help to bring the motion of the neck back to normal. You should never commit the mistake of taking whiplash as any other small injury. This injury, if ignored can lead to serious complications, which will then be difficult to deal with.
Whiplash injury is not only restricted within the neck. It can spread to lower spine too. Various studies conducted worldwide have revealed that females are more prone to whiplash injuries than male. Also, the person driving the car is more likely to suffer a whiplash in case of any accident then those who are sitting in back of the car.
After the treatment of whiplash injury, begins the process of filing the claim. Here, you should see that it is a complicated process and it may take a lot of time to get settled.
